School Facilities

CLASSROOMS

Students in Track 2 are educated in mainstream primary and secondary curricula that lead to PSLE/GCE "O" level and "N" level qualifications.

Students access learning in an autism-friendly class environment. This space is a careful choreography of Physical Structure, Schedule, Work Systems and Visual Supports.

Attached to each classroom is a Pull-out Room for small group or 1-to-1 work. Next to this is a Time-out Room or a Leisure Room, meant for students to take breaks or self-regulate in times of anxiety. Each classroom also comes with an Observation Room to facilitate teachers’ coaching with minimal disturbance to the students.

THE KITCHEN

Via kitchen tasks, pupils learn to become independent in following written and spoken instructions. This facility serves mainly students attending Daily Living Skills as well as Food & Nutrition lessons for Secondary School. Students receiving pre-vocation training with the Café Worksite come here for training, to.

Cooking also provides our students with a sense of personal achievement as they are usually rewarded with rather tasty results. At the same time, they become aware of the importance of having a healthy diet and kitchen hygiene and safety. Lots of opportunities for meaningful social interactions here!

SCIENCE GARDEN

A collaborative project with the National Parks Board for the Clean & Green Week, this Science Garden now grows a variety of herbs, flowers, fruits, vegetables and even carnivorous plants.

This outdoor classroom is a fertile ground to cultivate independent learning. These plants were planted by some of our pioneering students. With hands-on projects and out-of-the-classroom activities, learning is fun!

We live in a concrete jungle and it is on this little oasis where our students get to appreciate and learn more about the environment.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT) ROOM

Decked with toys like bean bags, balls, cones, puppets, trampoline, therabands, swings and slides, the OT room seems like an indoor playground.

But it is more than that. OT sessions are conducted here to address their sensory integration issues commonly found in people with ASD. This makes them more organised and available for learning.

These sessions are executed by therapists and teachers through various fun activities designed by our OT consultant.

COMPUTER LABS

Information Technology (IT) is one of the most engaging media. It is an important tool to prepare our students for current school work and also future employment. Younger students also get on the computer for fun interactive activities to practise thinking skills.

Since the formation of IT Faculty in Pathlight, students are progressively trained with fundamental IT skills relevant for vocation. Students with specific talents get further assessed to receive additional specialization training with Office Worksite and Design Studio Worksite.

The autism-friendly physical structure, work systems and visual support here play big parts in ensuring many successful learning sessions for our students.

MULTIMEDIA ROOM

Teachers and therapists have to be learners first in order to be effective support for the students. This room plays host to an array of training workshops and seminars.

Many of these activities are also opened to our counter-parts from mainstream schools and special schools. Continuous learning and improvement is the only way for us to provide quality education.

WeCAN Training, the training division of Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), runs a myriad of autism-related trainings here. From workshops to Certificate and Diploma Courses, this room has seen many enlightened minds sharpened to do more for our Special Education community.

Parents are not left out. It is compulsory for Pathlight parents to attend quarterly parent training conducted by autism and education experts.

STUDIO APARTMENT

This is a replica of a typical home set up to facilitate students to learn and practise home & community skills, social skills like manners and etiquette, and independent living. Through task-orientated lessons, students get to learn a range of skills to help them become more independent.

In addition, students get to plan events, interact and socialise with their peers in a simulated social setting, eg class parties.

THERAPY ROOMS

On top of the set of core curriculum and where resources permit, students get to hone further their functional independence in areas like communication, social skills, interaction and imagination. These rooms are used for such small group or one-to-one therapy sessions.

The outreach team from Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) also conduct therapy sessions for children with autism needs from mainstream schools.

MUSIC ROOM

Music and movement are inside each child and here, students are encouraged to let them out. Music & Movement classes help them to understand music, music terminologies, genres and composers.

Music & Movement helps student improve balance and coordination. Music-making and music listening activities develop self-discipline, group synergy, as well as critical and creative thinking skills.

ART ROOM

Art empowers our students with the ability to create and a secured channel to express that which is closest to their hearts. In the process, they also get to practise creative thinking and expend their excess energy constructively.

The intangible rewards are even bigger. Students gain huge sense of achievement and their self-esteem is increased.

Art is an essential part of each student’s intellectual and communicative development.

This is also where our students and other children from mainstream schools attend weekly Pottery Classes.

PATHLIGHT DESIGN STUDIO

This an Enterprise Learning Centre set up with the aim to employ designers with special needs. The studio currently is meting out training for students at the Design Worksite specializing in Flash Animation, Web Publishing and Print Production. Students also develop strong work habits, stamina and other soft-skills relevant to the Design industry.

This studio also serves as the in-house advertising and design house for ARC(S) and Pathlight School. It is constantly churning out collaterals for student and staff needs, training courses, event supports, fundraising movements and just about anything that requires Visual Communication.

The studio also roll out ad-hoc courses in the school holidays as part of ARC(S) Enrichment Programmes.

PATHLIGHT CAFÉ

This Enterprise Learning Centre is a collaborative project with Starbucks Coffee Singapore. On top of serving the school’s Recess Time and Lunch Time, its core purpose is to train students with skills relevant to the F&B industry.

Café trainees attend job-coaching sessions after school hours. Café trainees learn to be baristas, prepare food on demand, work the cashier and serve in the bussing department. A handful of our pioneering trainees now work as paid employees after school hours.

During curriculum hours, the Café serves as a training site for Café Worksite trainees. These trainees also get “live” jobs by working with the Café staff and Café Volunteers to prepare food for Recess.

Pathlight Café boasts of a range of freshly made pastry, sandwiches, local fares, desserts as well as Cassein-free Glutten-free (CFGF) snacks.
