Singapore Idol just ended and currently we have So You Think You Can Dance. Pathlighters caught on the bandwagon and showcased its own talent production.
For two consecutive weeks, most of the Track 2 students together with their teachers came up with skits, song and dance sequences, all within a short span of two weeks.
“We intend to dispel the notion that wringing water out of a rock is at times easier than getting our students to perform on stage,” said Ms Ch’ng, one of the teachers- in-charge of the contact time.
Another teacher, Mrs Joseph said that the committee wanted to create an awareness that our students indeed have talent and that should be appreciated.
The timely event came after the SA2 exams when the students were more relaxed and could put their time and effort in coming up with their performances.
The secondary school students blew our minds with their performances, which they combined with mixed media. Tembusu did “Little Blue Riding Hood” which was a remake of “Little Red Riding Hood”. They combined narrative storytelling with flash animation.
Like all good shows, its success lies with the directors. The teachers worked really hard in coordinating the each of the performances. Despite the short notice, most of the teachers were very receptive in making the show a reality.
“Honestly, we were quite sceptical at first whether the idea would be well- received by the teachers,” said Ms Ch’ng.
“When the idea was announced, instead of encountering ‘stunned faces’ and ‘grievances’ of more work, the next we knew, the show was up and going! Many credits must go to the teachers who thought hard of ideas and looked deep into the great depth of their students’ talents and got them into the frame of mind to perform,” said Ms Ch’ng again.
Mrs Joseph agreed with Ms Ch’ng on the spontaneity of the teachers.
As this was the first time we were showcasing our students’ talents, it was also a learning experience for the committee on the improvements we could make.
We are looking forward to a bigger and better show next year!
