AN EXPERIENTIAL HISTORY LESSON AT THE OLD FORD FACTORY

1 Apr 2010

Some of our Secondary School Track students went on an experential History lesson to the Old Ford Factory Museum.

At this site where the historic surrender of the British to the Japanese was signed, our students were introduced to historical artefacts and replicas, photographs and drawings, newspaper reports, documents and maps which lined the walls, ceilings and floor of the museum. They also watched documentaries of what had happened during the Invasion and Occupation of Singapore.

The history of the Japanese Invasion and Occupation of Singapore came alive as our students eagerly explored and soaked in the rich and intense revelation of our past. Through the process, they learnt to empathise with the sufferings and pain Singapore had struggled through in the three and a half years. Some have begun to recognise the need for every Singapore citizen to protect and defend our country.

Students worked with their friends or individually to draw, make notes and take photographs of various materials which they later used in their presentation and reflection.

It was indeed an interesting history lesson for the students!
