Selena Seow, 18, has a special love for birds, particularly parrots. Prior to the discovery of her talent in drawing parrots, Selena's mother, Mrs Corine Yeow who is also an educator in Special Education, shared that Selena has outstanding cross stitch skills where she is able to stitch complicated patterns. Even though she may take up to a few days to complete a drawing, her works are very detailed. It is also through her passion in drawing that allows others to enter see the world from her point of view.

Ng Li Jie, 17 has a special love for nature as it represents peace and tranquility. His mother, Ms Dorothy Teo, 42 shares that Li Jie will always bring along his camera while travelling to document the various scenery he sees. He began learning different art techniques nine years ago and his favourite artist is none other than Spanish artist and Surrealist icon Salvador Dalí. He is currently pursuing his 'O' Levels.

It is not difficult to guess who Sean Bay, 19 is drawing from the portraits he creates. He draws portraits of personas such as characters from TV Serial "Under One Roof" and various local politicians.

 

His mother, Mdm Koh Joh Ting, 47 shares that Sean has a special interest in politicians even though they have never discussed Politics with him.

 

Drawing portraits has since become his way of preserving memories.

SINGING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The Harvard University's all male jazz a cappella group, Din & Tonics, was in Singapore as part of their biennial 13-country world tour. The art of conversation is what Sarah found through her love for drawing. Sarah Wong, 15 who was described as introverted by her father Mr Stephen Wong, would usually spend her day drawing away. She shares how drawing is a form of relaxation for her. Her talent in drawing was first discovered when she started drawing comics where she gets inspired by Japanese anime, storybooks and even interesting stories from school life. She will be sitting for GCE 'N' Levels next year and she hopes to pursue her passion in jewellery design upon graduation.

Students from the Primary two cohort went to the Singapore Science Centre as part of their Discovery Learning Journey. The students were taken on a guided trail in the Eco Garden. Under the influence of his older brother Tan Syang picked up the love for drawing. With his superb memory he is able to recall advertisements he saw when he travels on public transport and draw them out. His family would regularly make trips to Botanical Garden or Mc Ritchie Reservoir and Tan Syang enjoys such outings. What left a deep impression on the reporter was not just his talent but Mr Tan's sense of pride when he talks about his son.

BRITISH ARTIST STEPHEN WILTSHIRE INSPIRES STUDENTS IN VISIT TO PATHLIGHT SCHOOL

British artist Stephen Wiltshire proved an inspiration to students on a visit to Pathlight School. The 40 year old savant toured the autism-focused school in Ang Mo Kio at the end of a 10-day trip which has seen him paint a panorama of the city's skyline from memory. He walked around the school's compound and spoke to students working in its foyer café and science labs.

PATHLIGHT ROBOTICS CLUB WON 1ST RUNNER UP AND MOST INNOVATIVE AWARD AT THE WORLD ROBO TOURNAMENT 2014

34 students, representing 13 teams, from our newly formed Robotics Club took part in their first national robotics competition – The World Robo Tournament on 25 June 2014. This year, the event attracted more than 100 teams from schools all over Singapore.

WINNING OF CREATIVITY AND INITIATIVE (THE STRAITS TIMES, LITTLE RED DOT, 1 JULY 2014)

It was not just the creativity of their ideas, but also their sense of initiative, that propelled three groups to victory at the third edition of Shop For Your School. The competition, organised by Little Red Dot and Singapore Press Holdings Foundation (SPHF), aimed to empower young people to make a difference and take pride in their contributions to their community.

With your support, Pathlight's enrolment is now above 900 as of January 2014! About 40% of our students are from families earning below average incomes. Some in fact are from very needy backgrounds. The School subsidises their school fees and works with donors to fund additional expenses such as books, uniforms, meals, transport and holiday enrichment. Thank you for giving them the opportunity of a good education.
