SCIENCE GARDEN: PLANTING OF VARIOUS FRUIT TREES AND VEGETABLES FOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
The plants grown in our Science Garden are mentioned in the Science Curriculum and with them planted in the school compound, teachers are able to conduct their lesson outside the classrooms.
Students and staff from Pathlight are again blessed by our partner, Starbucks Coffee, who presented each of them with a groovy-looking water bottle! Thanks again Starbucks for partnering and caring for the Pathlighters all these years.
SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS IN MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS MIXING BRINGS BENEFITS BUT MAY NOT SUIT ALL STUDENTS, THE STRAITS TIMES
In the recent years, mainstream schools have been catering more and more to students with differing learning needs. Educators recognize the benefits of immersing a special needs students in a mainstream school, however also know that this may not be the most suitable way for all students. Ms Loy Sheau Mei, Vice-Principal of Pathlight School, shares some of the factors that parents should consider.

With demand for places growing, the school has turned its attention towards better preparing students for employment. Yesterday, it unveiled several initiatives at the official opening of its new $34 million campus in Ang
Mo Kio.
AN EXPERIENTIAL HISTORY LESSON AT THE OLD FORD FACTORY
Students worked with their friends or individually to draw, make notes and take photographs of various materials which they later used in their presentation and reflection. It was indeed an interesting history lesson for the students!
The Ministry of Education’s ‘satellite partnership’ programme is benefitting students from special schools by letting them participate in activities in mainstream schools. Some students with special learning needs are also attending certain classes together with students from mainstream schools.
Mrs S R Nathan graced Pathlight School with her visit today. Our students were thrilled to meet her as she toured the facilities of the school and interacted with them.
3 of our Primary 5 classes participated Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) annual Share-A-Meal 2010 fundraising event. Students contributed in this community-involvement program by helping in the labeling of donation tins on the first day and counting of donations on the second day.
Students had fun at the Hollywood Dinos Exhibition, at the Jurong BirdPark. The outing provided a unique discovery and learning experience through interaction and play with dinosaur exhibits, some of which have never been seen in Singapore.
Our students came dressed in their traditional outfit to participate in this joyous occasion! They enjoyed fun-filled class activities educating them on the traditions of Chinese New Year.

LANCET FORMALLY RETRACTS 1998 PAPER LINKING VACCINE AND AUTISM
PARIS (AFP) - – Medical journal The Lancet Tuesday withdrew a 1998 study linking autism with inoculation against three childhood illnesses, a paper that caused an uproar and an enduring backlash against vaccination.

PM Lee lauded the teachers of Pathlight, "They are putting in a great deal of passion and commitment, helping these kids with learning disabilities, not just to master the curriculum but how to work together in a class, how to attend assembly, and how to be part of social life.
Victor Ong now heads the design studio at Pathlight, left behind a promising career in advertising. "I needed to find meaning and significance in my work," explains Ong, "so I left advertising, deciding that I need to find a new space."
