Education in Singapore is typically classified as either 'Mainstream' or 'Special'.
Pathlight provides a unique Blend of Mainstream Academics and Life- Readiness Skills for children with autism
The Pathlight School curriculum is based on the following model:
Our key goals:
To enable our students to achieve independence and self-determination in all learning areas.
To provide a broad and balanced curriculum specific to the needs of each child.
The Singapore mainstream school curriculum (currently leading to a PSLE and GCE 'O' Level qualification) is our base curriculum. However we know that this is only part of a curriculum that our students require. They also need various skills and work practices to access the mainstream curriculum.
In addition to the usual academic subjects, we also offer subjects such as social skills, daily living skills, leisure skills, project management skills, gymnastics, language skills, etc. However, we do not offer mother tongue as part of our curriculum.
Each child will have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), whereby priorities are set, and strategies and accommodations are devised for individual and classroom instruction. The smaller teacher:student ratio aims at providing educators with greater opportunities for intensive instruction.
Depending on the level of the student, the curriculum may encompass:
Offered in both Primary and Secondary
Offered only in Secondary
English
Maths
Science
Physical Education
Music & Movement
Art & Craft (may include pottery)
Daily Living Skills
Social Skills
Project Management Skills

Combined Science (Physics & Chemistry)

Our educational philosophy also encompasses inclusion in the community. As such, children at Pathlight School will be encouraged to undertake CCAs such as sports and creative activities, in the larger community – with all the support necessary to make this a 'meaningful' curriculum option.
